(DailyDig.com) – While people may look at fortune tellers as nothing more than scammers, there have been instances of people accurately foretelling the future. The hit TV show “The Simpsons” is just one example. The iconic cartoon made many scary predictions throughout its long-lived 30-year runtime — several of which appear to be coming true.

Here’s what the iconic cartoon suggests will happen in 2022.
In several episodes of The Simpsons, writers depict robot takeovers. The fear of a robot army is nothing new; several movies and TV series portray what could happen if artificial intelligence became self-aware. Even tech leader Elon Musk has warned about the risks of integrating highly-advanced AI into our society.
Now, humanity is closer to a robot takeover than ever before with breakthroughs in the design and development of robots — including at least one learning child robot and several robot police dogs. These machines are life-like and can even replicate human expressions.
The Simpsons also predicted something much more severe in a 1995 episode: the coming of World War III. Growing nuclear capabilities in several countries could quickly spark a world war with the potential to end the human race and all life on Earth. Tensions between the US, Russia, and China often seem to increase by the day, drawing concerns about conflict if de-escalation fails.
Homer and his funny family also touched on virtual reality in the same episode, depicting the use of virtual reality headsets and smartwatches. While that may seem innocent, new developments raise questions about how companies might abuse such technology. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently unveiled a virtual world known as Meta that some suspect the company will use for nefarious means.
What else have The Simpsons predicted that could happen in 2022? Will the world end in a ball of fire, or will we all be forced to bow down to the robot overlords? Maybe Zuckerberg’s Meta will become like the Matrix instead.
Time will tell whether storyline writers were right.
