(DailyDig.com) – Founder and CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, Elon Musk has played a critical role in advancing technology and space travel. The tech guru frequently shares ambitious ideas, such as traveling to Mars. While it’s become pretty standard for Musk to trend toward the outlandish, one recent prediction serves as his most ambitious by far.
Since the beginning of 2021, Musk has insisted that he plans to have boots on the surface of Mars. Initially, he claimed that SpaceX would accomplish the feat within five and a half years. In March, the tech tycoon issued a tweet in which he predicted that it could land its Starship rocket on Mars “well before 2030.”

The Tesla CEO recently doubled down on that statement, asserting that SpaceX would successfully deliver people to Mars within a decade — and that’s the worst-case scenario. He feels they will achieve that goal if everything goes to plan in just five years instead.
The mogul cited two main factors determining the timeframe at which the company can accomplish its goal: engineering the Starship rocket and driving production costs down. Musk wants to build 1,000 Starship rockets and launch them at a rate of three per day in order to send 1 million people to the Red Planet.
If SpaceX manages to achieve this lofty goal, humanity will be taking yet another leap into space, and ultimately, engaging in the next era of pioneership. But whether or not Musk’s predictions are realistic is another matter entirely. It isn’t yet possible to determine if the human race can manage to foster life on Mars at all, let alone within the next 10 years.
