(DailyDig.com) – The name of a newly discovered bacterium that destroys fungi was chosen in honor of Keanu Reeves. Because of the chemicals’ extraordinary lethal potential, the German researchers who discovered them gave the bacteria Reeve’s name due to their effectiveness in destroying the fungi.
The substance, which is used to combat plant fungal illnesses as well as human fungus, has been given the name “keanumycins” in honor of the actor. According to the press release, because it does not cause damage to human or plant cells, it may be used as a chemical-free alternative to pesticides without having a negative impact on the environment.
A German scientist, Sebastian Götze, from the Leibniz Institute for Natural Product Research and Infection Biology said on March 6 that the bacteria’s lipopeptides are so lethal that they were named for the actor Keanu Reeves. Yet instead of dangerous people, they take out harmless molds.
The results, first reported in January 2023 in the Journal of the American Chemical Society, resurfaced in the news when a fan of the “John Wick” actor inquired about them. German scientists discovered a naturally occurring substance in bacteria that is so powerful at eliminating fungus that they decided to name it after Reeves. The fan inquired as to his opinion on the matter.
The name should have been “John Wick”, Reeves quipped. It was a “pretty cool and surreal” experience, he said.
Reeves is again playing the “John Wick” character in the next movie series. He believes that this is the toughest physical job he has ever had in his career because of how far he had to push his character in the forthcoming film.
The original release date for the film was May 2022. However, it was delayed nearly a full year.
Three years following the 2019 movie “John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum,” which made $327,281,779 at the international box office, the teaser shows Reeves’ renowned hitman ready for retribution.
