(DailyDig.com) – You may soon be required to pay if you are using someone else’s Disney+ subscription with or without their permission.
This summer, Bob Iger, CEO of Disney, said that the corporation was implementing a plan to monetize free streaming accounts.
On August 9, Iger said that they are looking at the best possibilities for members who want to share their subscriptions with family and friends. Subscriber agreements will be updated later this year to include new provisions on sharing practices. They plan to use strategies to boost revenue somewhere in 2024.
Customers in Canada who have a Disney+ membership have been informed that, beginning November 1, “Unless otherwise permitted by your service tier,” they may not share their subscription with anybody outside of their immediate home. Customers were also advised that Disney+ may cancel or restrict a user’s access to the service, or take any other action authorized under the user agreement, if the firm determines that the user has violated the terms of service. Disney+ may provide additional alternatives for account sharing outside the main user’s home, as suggested by the terminology used.
Disney’s move to capitalize on password-sharing customers follows Netflix’s mid-May rollout of its own paid-sharing scheme in over one hundred nations. The goal of this is to discourage the sharing of passwords and encourage consumers to create separate accounts for each person outside of their household.
Netflix executives attributed a big portion of the second quarter’s growth to the debut of its paid-sharing service, which they said brought in 5.9 million new users. At a recent investor meeting, Netflix confirmed that they would continue to operate in the password-sharing industry, but maybe just temporarily.
Disney is increasing the cost of its individual premium tiers in the United States, including ESPN+, Hulu, and Disney+, beginning this month. Starting on October 1, the monthly subscription fees for ESPN+, Hulu, and Disney+ Premium (all without advertising) will all go up, bringing the totals to $10.99, $17.99, and $13.99, respectively.
