(DailyDig.com) – As a victim of Harvey Weinstein’s depravity, Julia Ormond is suing him for sexual violence. The British actress, 58, alleges in the suit she filed against Weinstein on October 4 in the Supreme Court of New York that he sexually attacked her in December 1995 after a business dinner.
Ormond’s lawsuit targets not only the disgraced producer but also Miramax, The Walt Disney Company, and CAA for reportedly covering up for him because of the money he brought in.
Ormond informed her representatives, Kevin Huvane and Bryan Lourd, but she was urged against making a public statement. Both individuals are now CAA co-chairmen and are mentioned in her case despite not being listed as defendants.
She also makes claims of insufficient oversight and continued employment against Miramax, the corporation Weinstein and his brother co-founded, and against The Walt Disney corporation, which owned Miramax in the 1990s. In the case, she mentions numerous ex-Disney leaders, including Jeffrey Katzenberg, the ex-chairman, and Michael Eisner, Disney’s former CEO, although they aren’t named as defendants.
The lawsuit claims that in the mid-1990s, when Ormond was signed by Miramax, she was represented by some of CAA’s most powerful talent agents. What she didn’t know was that Harvey Weinstein, co-chairman of Miramax, preyed on the female performers he worked with.
However, Ormond’s male CAA representatives were aware of Weinstein’s reputation. The studios at Disney and Miramax, where Weinstein worked, also knew. Blatantly, none of these prestigious organizations informed Ormond about Weinstein’s history of sexual abuse against women.
Unexpectedly, after the 1990s, when the entertainment business turned against her apparently for no cause, Ormond was abruptly ejected from Hollywood.
The article “The Conception, Production, and Distribution of Julia Ormond” in The New York Times led to accusations that she had artificially boosted her profile. In the 1990s, she became a household name because of her performances in hit movies, including “Sabrina,” “First Knight,” and “Legends of the Fall.”
Currently, Weinstein may be found in Rome, New York, at the Mohawk Correctional Facility.
