(DailyDig.com) – On the verge of suing The Walt Disney Company, nine thousand women are claiming the firm discriminated against them financially because of their gender.
It is against the law for businesses in California to treat their workers differently because of their gender, and this lawsuit would be the biggest ever certified under that law.
A news source states that on December 8, a judge named Elihu M. Berle of the Los Angeles Superior Court denied Disney’s motion to dismiss the case, enabling the planned class action lawsuit to go forward. The case, he claimed, is so extensive that it’s impossible to imagine.
Outside the downtown LA courthouse, plaintiffs’ lawyer, Lori Andrus, celebrated the favorable ruling. In the four years of depositions, she claims that Disney has tried to gaslight these ladies. They are loyal to the company and their positions, but they are demanding fair treatment from management.
Using a non-union job below the vice president level as an example, the lawsuit claims that Disney compensated women far less than men throughout a large portion of the firm as early as April 1, 2015. All employees from the Disneyland theme park and hotels, the Disney TV and film studios, the Disney cruise line, Lucasfilm, Marvel, and ABC are covered.
Disney issued a formal statement expressing its dissatisfaction. According to them, they are still weighing their options after being upset by the court’s decision on the Equal Pay Act charges. The company allegedly refuted the allegations and said the salary comparisons used by the plaintiffs are flawed since they are based on the choices made by individual managers rather than an overarching policy.
The future of such a large class-action lawsuit is uncertain. The next step in the process is to plan a status meeting for February.
Disney has recently promoted itself as an example of left-wing values like diversity and inclusion. An unexpected financial crisis has led to the recent layoff of 7,000 workers, as the company’s embrace of awakened social justice action has alienated loyal consumers.
