(DailyDig.com) – On January 19, according to press sources, Alec Baldwin was indicted on involuntary manslaughter charges in connection with the tragic shooting death of Halyna Hutchins, the cinematographer on “Rust,” set in 2021.
Baldwin instructed crew workers to step aside as he readied himself to fire his weapon, as shown in footage published in November from the “Rust” set.
Baldwin has now been indicted for Hutchins’ killing twice by grand juries. On January 31, Baldwin was initially indicted on involuntary manslaughter, two counts; however, in April, the charges were dismissed.
A partner at Walzer Melcher & Yoda, Christopher C. Melcher, spoke in the outtakes that appeared in the autumn. A crew member was seen to be ordered to step aside by Alec as he pointed his weapon in that direction. This proves that Alec was being quite cautious when using the gun. The fact that he was aware of the regulations on gun safety asks whether he exercised reasonable care when he shot Joel Souza and Halyna Hutchins.
On October 21, 2021, while practicing a scene for a Western film in New Mexico, Hutchins was murdered, and Joel Souza, the director, was injured by a bullet from a gun that Baldwin was carrying. According to Baldwin, he did engage the trigger of the weapon that struck Hutchins.
It seems the prosecution has done more forensic testing on the pistol and now feels they have the missing piece of evidence, according to Rither Alabre, a former prosecutor in New York. This piece of evidence shows that the gun could not have been shot without someone pressing the trigger.
According to Melcher, actors are not supposed to have expert knowledge of firearms. However, Alec was given a genuine pistol and proceeded to aim it at two individuals without either checking to see whether it was empty or letting the prop master check it for him. Making sure a gun is empty before using it on set is common practice.
Last May, despite all the legal upheaval, they wrapped up shooting the movie “Rust.”
