(DailyDig.com) – Hunter Schafer, an actress in the HBO show “Euphoria,” was among almost three dozen protesters arrested on February 26. They were demonstrating for a cease-fire at a pro-Palestine protest during the “Late Night with Seth Meyers” taping with President Biden, according to the police.
Schafer, 25, was issued a ticket for trespassing. She and her fellow protesters were demanding Israel’s cease-fire in Gaza as they responded to the October 7 attack on Israel by Hamas. She had joined the protest by Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) as they held banners and chanted their demands for “no more war.”
JVP posted on social media that the disruption of Biden’s guest spot on “Late Night” was the intention of the protest.
The “Euphoria” actress was escorted out of the 30 Rockefeller Plaza, headquarters of NBC. She was seen in a photo obtained by news media, showing that her hands were behind her back being escorted by the police. She was wearing a T-shirt calling for a cease-fire.
After the protesters were dispersed, Biden talked to Meyers about the cease-fire during a segment on “Late Night” as they were going out for ice cream. He told Meyers and several reporters that were in the store, that he hoped by the end of the upcoming weekend, there would be a pause in the conflict. Biden said that his adviser on national security told him they are close to a cease-fire.
Some Hollywood celebrities have voiced their pro-Palestine support with negative consequences for their work. Susan Sarandon’s agency dropped her after she was involved in a rally supporting Palestine. “Scream VII” actress, Melissa Barrera was let go when she compared the fate of Palestinians as the same as victims of concentration camps.
John Kirby, spokesman for the National Security Council in the White House, stated that a cease-fire of a permanent nature is not a current goal. Any action that lets Hamas remain in charge of Gaza will not ensure that the hostages they still have will be released.
