Comedian, Richard Lewis, Dies At 76

(DailyDig.com) – The comedian and actor best known for his stand-up routines, Richard Lewis, died on February 28 at home in Los Angeles. The 76-year-old actor died from a heart attack after years of suffering from Parkinson’s disease.

Jeff Abraham, Lewis’ representative, announced his death, and Joyce Lapinsky, his wife, would like to thank all of his fans and friends for the support and love they freely give. She asked for privacy during this difficult time.

HBO, which produces “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” made a statement that they were heartbroken at the news of Lewis’ death. He was a beloved member of their family, and they wanted to express their condolences to his family and the friends and fans that dearly loved him.

The entertainer was born in New York but spent his formative years in New Jersey. Lewis began his stand-up career in Greenwich Village, New York City. He was often perceived to have a dark sense of humor and be neurotic. As he gained notoriety, he often performed his routine on late-night shows, such as “The Tonight Show.”

His TV roles saw him star in “Anything but Love” with Jamie Lee Curtis. He also performed in other TV sitcoms, such as “Daddy Dearest” (with Don Rickles) and “Hiller and Diller” (with Kevin Lealon).

Lewis also had roles in several movies, including the comedy “Robin Hood: Men in Tights” as Prince John, “Leaving Las Vegas,” “Hugo Pool,” and “Drunks” as a drug addict and alcoholic.

During his 24 years of performing on HBO’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” Lewis played a somewhat fictional version of his own character alongside his friend, Larry David.

David released a statement, saying that Lewis and he were like brothers. He was a combination of sweet and fun. But after his death, David cried, stating that he wouldn’t forgive Lewis for that.

Lewis announced in April 2023 that he had had Parkinson’s disease for the last two years. He stated that he couldn’t perform his stand-up on the stage.

His wife, Joyce Lapinsky, survives him.
