(DailyDig.com) – The Philadelphia Eagles center, Jason Kelce, announced on March 4 that, after 13 years with the Eagles, he would be retiring. During the press conference, Kelce spoke of his wife, children, brother, and father in a tribute, claiming that the role of father is the highest goal in life for a man.
During his tenure with the Eagles, Kelce, 36, played in 193 games out of the 211 games during the regular season. He was a consistent center on one of the best offensive lines in the league. His being named All-Pro six times as a member of the First-Team makes him one of only five players to receive that honor as an offensive lineman. S
In college, Kelce played twice in the All-Big East on the Second-team. During his time with the Eagles, he also played in the Pro-Bowl seven times and received a Super Bowl win, as well as the ring when they won the game with the New England Patriots for the championship, according to sports news media statistics.
Kelce was born in 1987 in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. The Eagles picked him in the sixth round of the 2011 draft, where he played his entire 13-year football career. Kelce said that his brother, Travis, and he were close growing up. He stated that they laughed, fought, competed, and cried as they learned life together.
During Kelce’s retirement announcement, he talked about Kylie, his wife’s, importance to him, along with their children Bennett, 1, Elliotte, 3, and Wyatt, 4. He relayed how his marriage to Kylie had given him such fulfillment, even more so than his career.
He also praised the job of being a father, saying that he, as a man, can do his best by being a strong example to his girls. Being a devoted, ever-present, and loving father is a child’s greatest gift.
As Kelce completed his comments, he added that he had so much appreciation for all the people involved in giving him support in his life, both on and off the field.
