(DailyDig.com) – On April 10, Ismail Haniyeh, 62, a senior leader of Hamas, confirmed the deaths of three of his sons and four of his grandchildren who were killed by an airstrike by Israel.
He stated that they were killed while attempting to liberate the Al-Aqsa Mosque and Jerusalem. His sons, Mohammad, Amir, and Hazem, and their children were in the Shati refugee camp in Gaza when the missile struck their car. He claimed that they were going to visit their family for Eid-al-Fitr, a Muslim holiday.
The confirmation and motive for the strike was stated by Israel’s military that the sons of Haniyeh were targeted due to the fact that all three of them were operatives in the al-Qassam Brigades. That brigade is an armed Hamas unit that has been operating terrorist endeavors in central Gaza.
Haniyeh, who is living in Qatar in exile, told news sources that Israel seeks revenge and that they do not obey any laws or value any decent standards. He made clear that the killings of his family would have no effect on Hamas to agree to any of Israel’s demands. Any ceasefire discussions with Israel will not be affected by their targeting his family.
He defiantly added that Israel is delusional to believe that Hamas will bow to their demands during any negotiations. He claimed that Hamas would never compromise or surrender regardless of their sacrifices. Haniyeh concluded by stating that his people are just as dear to him as his family.
In 2019, Haniyeh left Gaza to become Hamas’ negotiator and chief diplomat. He has moved around Qatar and Turkey to serve in the Hamas leadership role that he took in 2017.
The eldest of Haniyeh’s sons, Abdel-Salam, posted on social media that his brothers and nephews and nieces were martyred in God’s honor.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) told the news media that they know of the claims of additional family members of Haniyeh, one of whom is a minor, being wounded. They said there is no confirmation to verify this claim.
