(DailyDig.com) – Coachella 2024 in Indio, California, an entertainment spectacle by J Balvin on April 14, surprised the crowd with a guest appearance by Will Smith. His appearance sealed the theme of an extra-terrestrial extravaganza, as did the set decorated with alien heads and UFOs.
The 38-year-old musician from Colombia, Balvin, brought Smith, 55, on stage to perform the “Men in Black” 1997 track. This was the same track featured in Smith’s movie “Men in Black.” Balvin announced Smith to the crowd and dressed up in a black suit, visible earpieces, and dark sunglasses as the character, Agent J, he played in the movie, arrived on the stage from a platform that raised him up.
Smith yelled, “Coachella,” as he began rapping with dancers in alien outfits and an alien projected on the giant digital screen behind him. At the conclusion of the song, the dancers surrounded Balvin, along with two women in special agent attire, to remove him from the stage. Smith then took out the “Neuralyzer,” the movie’s prop that wipes out the memories of the Agent’s targets.
Other performers on the first night of the festival were Renee Rapp and Kesha, Lil Uzi Vert, De La Ghetto, and Jowel & Randy. During the night, Balvin took time to thank his fans for their support and love. He told them they had encouraged him to return to performing on stage.
This performance by Smith at the Coachella Festival marks his return after a five-year absence. In his performance at the festival in 2019, he and his son, Jaden, performed a song, “Icon,” together.
His appearance with Balvin was also the first performance by Smith since his slap scandal at the Oscars, when he assaulted the host, Chris Rock. He did provide an apology to Rock, issued publicly.
After stepping back from his career in acting since the scandal, Smith will be returning to the movie theaters for his new movie, “Bad Boys 4,” scheduled to be released later in 2024.
