(DailyDig.com) – Evans Evans, an actress known for her portrayal of a victim kidnapped by Bonnie and Clyde in the 1967 movie “Bonnie and Clyde,” died on June 16 at 91.
An obituary revealed her death but provided no further details.
Evans was born in Bluefield, WV, and her career in entertainment began with appearances on several 1960s television shows, such as “Death Valley Days,“ “Alfred Hitchcock Presents,“ “Wagon Train,“ “Donna Reed Show,“ and “Twilight Zone.”
She married John Frankenheimer, a renowned director, in 1963. She appeared in Frankenheimer’s film “Grand Prix” and was also in another film of his, “Dead Bang.” Frankenheimer died in July 2002.
Evans was also a stage actress in the 1957 Broadway show “The Dark at the Top of the Stairs,” playing Flirt Conroy. People credited the show for showcasing her talent’s versatility.
In 1967’s “Bonnie and Clyde,” Evans had what is considered her signature role as Velma Davis. In his first movie role, Gene Wilder played Eugene, Velma’s boyfriend. Upon witnessing the theft of Eugene’s car, they swiftly pursue the culprits. The Barrow gang, made up of Bonnie and Clyde and their cohorts, kidnap them, take them on a joyride, and eventually dump them out on the side of the road in the dark.
Evans appeared in smaller film roles throughout the 1970s and in Frankenheimer’s 1989 film “Dead Bang.” She did appear in two more Broadway shows in 1960, “A Distant Bell” and “The 49th Cousin.”
In 2016, Evans discussed her press tour with her husband for the movie “The Manchurian Candidate” during an interview. During the tour, she participated in interviews on several popular television shows across the country. She said they were like ladies clubs, which she had avoided most of her life. But she admitted that it became fascinating as she talked about her husband’s movie and the actors in it.
She also starred in films such as “The Iceman Cometh” and “Are You Afraid of the Dark?”
