(DailyDig.com) – J.T. Jackson, a former friend, is suing actor and comedian Kevin Hart, alleging that he broke a 2021 agreement to publicly clear his name in relation to a videotape involving a scandal.
Jackson claimed that Hart had made extortion allegations that were baseless and false. According to the filing, both parties agreed in writing in July 2021 that Hart would back his request to dismiss the criminal charges stemming from the tape and make a public statement to absolve him of any wrongdoing.
Jackson’s initial charges included an attempt to extort Hart using a video he had obtained, the sale of stolen property, and identity theft through the release of the scandal video. In preparation for trial, forensics experts found manipulated documents that led to the prosecutors dismissing all criminal charges against Jackson.
The court filing states that Hart’s public statement was not what they had agreed on in 2021. The agreement’s apology language aimed to absolve Jackson of the wrongdoing allegations and aid in his reputation restoration. Hart was supposed to make it clear that Jackson had nothing to do with extortion. This was done to enable Jackson to resume his acting career, which had suffered from lost roles and a poor reputation. He also lost jobs that required checks on his background.
Rather than refuting the initial accusations made by Hart, he expressed his gratitude for the dismissal of the charges. Jackson’s suit then requests 12 million dollars for breaching the 2021 contract that Hart signed, as the public statement did not match what the agreement stated.
After filing the lawsuit, Jackson told the press that Hart had promised and signed an agreement three years ago to clear his name of the charges he faced. Nothing happened, so this is his attempt to finally clear his name and repair his reputation. He said that it attempts to pursue accountability by falsely accusing him of wrongdoing.
