(DailyDig.com) – Actress Kate Micucci of “Big Bang Theory,” who portrayed Lucy on the beloved CBS comedy, is recovering after her successful surgery for lung cancer, the star announced on social media on December 9. Micucci, who is 43 years old, said that she underwent the procedure on December 8. They were really early in catching it.
Micucci said that one result of her annual blood test was abnormally high. After that, she consulted a doctor, who discovered the lung spot during a cardiac scan. Having never smoked, she felt that receiving the diagnosis was really strange.
Approximately 1 in 5 cancer-related fatalities in the United States are attributable to lung cancer. Even though smoking is the primary cause of a diagnosis of lung cancer, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) state that a person who has never smoked may nonetheless get lung cancer.
According to the American Cancer Society (ACS), lung cancer may occur in nonsmokers owing to a variety of factors, including genetics, exposure to secondhand smoking, asbestos, radon, air pollution, and more. Seventy percent of people with lung cancer who get an early diagnosis survive for no less than five years. The long-term survival rate for lung cancer is as low as 5% if it has spread to other body areas.
Micucci said that she can’t wait to start painting again and that she would likely go slowly for a couple of weeks before picking up her pace again. She sent a video of herself admiring the artwork in the hospital while walking around with an IV.
In addition to her performances in the duo “Garfunkel & Oates” and TV show “Big Bang Theory,” Micucci has voiced characters in a number of films and television shows, such as “Doc McStuffins: The Doc and Bella Are In!,” “Mickey Mouse Funhouse,” and many “Scooby-Doo!” ventures as Velma Dinkley.
In November, Micucci, a singer-songwriter as well, released an album for children named “My Hat.”
