“Aquaman” Sequel Projected To Bomb On Opening Weekend

“Aquaman” Sequel Projected To Bomb On Opening Weekend

(DailyDig.com) – “The Marvels” is expected to have a more successful opening weekend than “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.”

According to reports, the second installment of “Aquaman” will not only underperform Marvel’s most recent film, but it will also fail to live up to the original’s 2018 performance, which earned more than $105 million during its Christmas holiday weekend spanning four days.

According to media estimates, the US box office results for the Christmas weekend of four days will see the sequel to “Aquaman” earn between $37 and $43 million. When compared, the sequel to “Captain Marvel” with a female lead bombed at the box office, debuting in November for a total of $46.1 million.

Plaguing the movie since filming began in 2021 for “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,” there have been reports of low test-audience scores, release postponements, and several reshoots. By skipping the premiere with the normal red carpet event, Warner Bros. seems to have lost confidence in their sequel.

Thanks to Warner Bros.’s “Wonka” and “The Color of Purple,” produced by Oprah Winfrey as an adaptation of a Broadway musical, “Aquaman 2” is expected to dominate the box office this holiday season, despite the lackluster Christmas weekends predicted for both films.

The Flash,” DC’s superhero film, opened at $55 million in June and eventually made only $108 million domestically, adding insult to injury for the studio.

Some believe the low box office returns of the superhero film were due to the fact that it featured troublesome actor Ezra Miller. In the months preceding the film’s release, Warner Bros. struggled to advertise it because of the controversy surrounding Miller, who was accused of several crimes.

Reports indicated that “The Marvels” had the worst opening weekend of any Marvel Cinematic Universe series and the worst second weekend decline for Marvel Studios ever in November. It even surpassed the previous record holder, “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantamania,” according to industry sources.
