Chris Pratt Dishes on First Hollywood Paycheck

(DailyDig.com) – “Guardians of the Galaxy” actor Chris Pratt admitted in an interview with “Sway in the Morning” on SiriusXM that he blew through his first paycheck for acting.

Pratt’s first acting role on the WB’s TV series “Everwood” was for $75,000. He shared in the interview that, as a child, his family never really had much money, and he never learned how to handle finances. He said that he really didn’t know how to handle money, as he spent it as it came in.

After graduating from high school, Pratt worked as a waiter at the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. while living in Maui in a van.

When asked about his first acting job paycheck, Pratt responded that it was more than any amount he had ever received, leading him to believe it would never run out. He believed that he would never have to take a waiter’s job again, and he traveled, confident that he had it all. But he stated that, after two months of spending, he ran out of money and wondered where it all went.

Prior to his acting role in “Everwood,” Pratt shared how he made small steps from TV commercials to getting his SAG card. He found a talent representative in Hollywood, which led to a significant role in the TV series. When he received his first $75,000 paycheck, a significant milestone for him was purchasing a house for his mother, Kathy. At that point, he stated that he actually felt as if he had really made it.

At that point in his life as an adult, he decided that life was getting more expensive and that he needed a financial plan in order to survive. He recalled how he decided to get wise about finances so that he would be able, when the time came, to stop working and still survive.

After his “Everwood” role, Pratt found himself in demand and landed roles in movies such as “Zero Dark Thirty,” “Guardians of the Galaxy” franchise, “Jurassic World” franchise, and his latest, “The Garfield Movie.”
