CNN's Alice Stewart Dies Suddenly Aged 58

(DailyDig.com) – On May 18, Alice Stewart, a Republican political reporter and CNN commentator on politics, died at age 58.

Early in the morning, the northern Virginia police confirmed that they had found her outdoors in the Bellevue neighborhood. She apparently died during a medical episode that she suffered, not due to foul play.

Mark Thompson, CNN’s CEO, emailed the newsroom staff to inform them of Stewart’s death. He said that she was a dear friend to him and everyone at CNN. She was a veteran of political reporting, an award-winning reporter who was unwavering in her kindness and political experience. He wrote that they would mourn her death with heavy hearts.

Jim Acosta, an anchor for CNN, wrote on social media that Stewart was one of his dear colleagues, and they had been friends since the 2012 presidential campaign. He stated that Stewart spoke passionately but was civil and kind.

Stewart was born in Atlanta, Georgia, and began her career there as a local news reporter. She relocated to Arkansas as a news anchor in Little Rock. She went on to become Governor Mike Huckabee’s communication director.

She served the same role for Huckabee during his 2008 presidential campaign. In 2012, she served in the same capacity for Representative Michele Bachmann (R-MN) during her presidential campaign and then for Senator Rick Santorum (R-PA). In 2016, she served Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) as communications director for his presidential campaign.

Cruz wrote on social media about Stewart’s death, saying that she was a talented worker and wonderful friend. He expressed her deep love for America, her full life, and her profound absence.

CNN hired Stewart before the 2016 presidential election, recognizing her as a conservative with independent thought processes. She often served as a commentator on-air during the daily political news. Stewart co-hosted the show, “Hot Mics From Left to Right,” that discussed culture and politics as they intersected in daily life with another CNN commentator, Maria Cardona.
