(DailyDig.com) – Terry Joyce, an actor and comedian who played Gerry in the 1990s children’s show “Byker Grove,” has died at age 61.
He has been a regular on the BBC for decades, most recently appearing in the sitcom “Hebburn” in 2013. He guest-starred in his role as a solicitor on “Hebburn.”
When the news of his death broke, the cause of his death remained unknown.
“Byker Grove,” which launched Joyce into the homes of children, began in 1989 and lasted until 2006. Along with Joyce, other show actors, such as Declan Donnelly, who had been with the show from its inception, also achieved success. Ant McPartlin joined the cast later, becoming another well-liked member.
Joyce’s other roles in television shows included “Spender,” which was based in Newcastle and also starred Jimmy Nail. In “Super Gran,” Joyce played PC Rupert Leekie. It was a comedy show for children about a super-powered grandmother.
The comedy circuit was a venue that Joyce was well-known for, as he traveled around the northeast and continued doing stand-up shows.
As word of his death saw tributes for Joyce pour in, Sue Sweeney, a fellow comedian, wrote on her social media page that she was saddened by the news of his death. She called him her friend, a talented comedian, and a wonderful man. She said he had a tremendous sense of humor and wished him well, as he gave everyone so many wonderful memories.
Another comedian, Gary Marshall, wrote a post on his social media to pay tribute to Joyce. He remembered his work with Joyce in the 90s at Harehills WMC, where they shared their humor and laughed hard. He acknowledged Joyce as a comedian who set the standard for all comedians.
Paul ‘Goffy’ Gough, a well-known voice as a radio presenter on BBC radio, relayed his tribute on social media, saying that it was indeed sad news. Joyce was a lovely person and a wonderful comedian. He said that working with Joyce was a wonderful time, and he thanked him for all the laughs.
