(DailyDig.com) – The jury for ‘Venice Debut Film’ jury will be made up of a variety of directors, including Jonas Carpignano, an Italian filmmaker, who will serve as the jury’s president for the Orizzonti sidebar. The jury will be presided over by Alice Diop, director of “Saint Omer“. The international jury for the ‘80th Venice International Film Festival,’ taking place from August 30 to September 9, will be led by “La La Land” filmmaker Damien Chazelle.
Venice’s primary sidebar’ jury, the Orizzonti, will be presided over by Jonas Carpignano, “A Chiara,” from Italy. The ‘Luigi De Laurentiis’ jury assessing the best debut picture at the festival will be led by French filmmaker Alice Diop.
Last year, Diop’s first fiction film, “Saint Omer,” earned the ‘Luigi De Laurentiis’ award in Venice. The drama also earned her the ‘Silver Lion’ grand jury award. Diop is excited to carry the torch this year and strive to see a fresh presence arise in the cinematic environment that the festival has always aspired to revitalize.
Chazelle, frequently seen on the Lido, debuted the Neil Armstrong epic “First Man” to compete at Venice. Chazelle said that this city known for the arts transforms into a city of film, and he is honored to be asked to chair this year’s jury. He’s looking forward to discovering a fresh generation of fantastic movies.
The majority of Carpignano’s films have been shown at Cannes, including “Mediterranea,” which was shown during Critics’ Week. Upon being offered the position of head of the jury in Orizzonti, he expressed his sincere appreciation for affording him such a prestigious opportunity. Orizzonti is able to provide us with a profound experience in all aspects of filmmaking thanks to its daring and diverse selection of films. He can’t wait to feel the emotions and encounter the many realities that we will learn about at the theaters on the Lido. He is looking forward to discovering a fresh generation of acclaimed movies in a setting that is regarded as being among the most breathtaking in the whole world.
