Ex-NFL Star Found Dead Aged 35

(DailyDig.com) – A retired NFL star, cornerback Vontae Davis, died in Florida at 35 years old. Early on April 1, the local police received a call to a home, where they discovered him dead.

According to a statement from the medical examiner, the Broward County Medical Examiner’s Office has launched an investigation into the death. The statement also hinted that it might take nearly 90 days to conclude the investigation and identify the cause of his death.

The Davie, FL, police reported that they received a call from the assistant at the home where Davis was found. The assistant informed the police that Davis was deceased upon his discovery. The police didn’t give any further information other than a preliminary review of the scene, which did not suggest that there was any foul play involved in his death.

A review of Broward County records regarding the property reveals that the homeowner is Adaline Davis. According to news reports in South Florida, she is Davis’s grandmother, and he lived at her home.

Davis was active in college football when he attended the University of Illinois. During his NFL career, Davis played for the Miami Dolphins as the 25th choice in the 2009 draft. He played for the Indianapolis Colts and retired in 2018 from the Buffalo Bills.

Davis was playing for the Bills against the LA Chargers when his shocking retirement made news. At halftime, he decided to announce his retirement at that moment. In his statement about the incident, he stated that it wasn’t planned that he quit during a game, but he suddenly realized that he was not able to continue doing what he felt he shouldn’t be doing. He added that he did not intend to show any disrespect to his coaches and teammates.

At the high school Davis attended, DC’s Dunbar High School’s former dean, Tiresias McCall, said that Davis was a caring young man who was energetic and a favorite of students when he returned to visit his high school.
