Former First Lady Passes Away, Leaders Pay Tribute

(DailyDig.com) – Former US presidents and their first ladies reacted to the death of Rosalynn Carter, the former first lady and spouse of former President Carter. Prior leaders expressed respect for the legacy of international humanitarians.

Carter died at her residence in Plains, Georgia, on November 19, aged 96, approximately two days after commencing palliative care. In March, following a sequence of hospitalizations that resulted in her husband’s admission to palliative care in February, she received a diagnosis of dementia.

President Carter asserted that in times of need, his wife provided him with sage counsel and motivation. Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter were the longest-married presidential couple at 77 years. Carter, who is 99 years old, is the eldest surviving former president in the history of the United States.

Former President Obama’s spouse, Michelle Obama, cited Carter’s tireless efforts and extensive advocacy on mental health, women’s rights, and geriatric care. Carter, she stated, utilized her position in profoundly significant ways, guided by her steadfast faith and dedication to service.

Obama stated in the repost of Michelle’s eulogy for Carter that the life of the former first lady serves as a reminder that our achievements have the greatest impact not in honors or accolades but in the many lives we affect.

Carter was regarded by former President George W. Bush and his spouse, Laura Bush, as a woman of fortitude and decorum. In a statement, the former first couple declared that no one was a more ardent supporter of President Carter than his wife was and that their union exemplified exemplary devotion and faithfulness.

Former President Bill Clinton and his wife, Hillary Clinton, lauded Carter’s efforts to promote wellness, democratic systems, and optimism worldwide in a joint statement. Carter was a devoted and empathetic advocate for the dignity of every human being.

Melania Trump, former first lady, and former President Donald Trump, both stated that Carter bequeathed an illustrious legacy of devotion to the country and extraordinary achievement.
