Hostage Rescue Operation Leaves Israeli Commander Dead

(DailyDig.com) – On the morning of June 8, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) executed a complex operation to rescue four hostages taken by Hamas during their invasion of Israel on October 7, 2023. Arnon Zamora, 36, was killed during the raid while his unit successfully helped free the hostages.

The plan to rescue the hostages had been planned weeks prior to the June 8 raid, according to a media source. They named the operation “Seeds of Summer.” After Zamora’s death, they changed it to “Operation Arnon.”

The hostages were held in Nuseirat’s refugee camp. The hostages freed were Almog Meir Jan, Noa Argamani, Shlomi Ziv, and Andri Kozlov.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement saying that, as the commander of the National Police Counter-Terrorism Unit, Zamora risked his life to rescue the hostages. They are in anguish about releasing this information. He knew of the risk, yet he risked his life to free the hostages.

Zamora came from Sde David, a village in Israel, about 15 miles from the Gaza border. He was killed as his unit was preventing scores of Hamas terrorists from advancing on the rescue in the process, according to officials.

He fought during the October 7 terrorist attack at the Yad Mordechai battle, stopping many of the Hamas terrorists from crossing the border into Israel to join the slaughter, according to officials.

Yoav Gallant, the Defense Minister of Israel, posted on social media that he saluted Zamora for leading the Yamam Unit as Chief Inspector during the operation on June 8. According to Gallant, he died as he lived, a hero.

After being held captive by Hamas in Gaza since the October 7, 2023, terrorist attack in Israel, the hostages were freed and returned home to Israel. The video of the reunion between the hostage, Noa Argamani, 25, and her father was heartwarming. She was finally home after eight months of captivity.

Revital Nasis, the sister of a freed hostage, Shomi Ziv, expressed her overwhelming gratitude for Zamora’s sacrifice.

His wife, Michal, two children, and parents remain in Zamora’s family.
