Israel Orders Evacuation After Senior Hamas Official Killed

(DailyDig.com) – On July 7, an airstrike by Israel killed Ehab Al-Ghussein, a manager of Hamas affairs, and three other people. Al-Ghussein was considered an important person in Hama’s leadership.

Holy Family School was located in northern Gaza, adjacent to Holy Family Church. According to civilians sheltering in the church, the strike targeted two classrooms at the school’s ground level.

The Israeli army reported that terrorists were hiding in the school, using it as a base for their terrorist plans and operations. The Israeli army stated that they took numerous steps to prevent harm to Gazan civilians, including ground intelligence and aerial surveillance to precisely target the two rooms.

A United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) Commissioner-General, Philippe Lazzarini, was outraged that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) repeatedly attacked civilian buildings such as schools. He stated that the Holy Family School served as a refuge for nearly 2,000 civilians, resulting in numerous injuries.

Lazzarini argued that the number of women and their children killed or injured was excessive. He refuted the IDF’s assertion that Hamas uses schools and hospitals as offices to plan and carry out its terrorist activities. He deemed the IDF’s attacks a breach of international law, demanding accountability for the harm they inflicted on civilians.

The IDF, on the other hand, claims that they discovered Hamas military tunnels dug under the UN’s buildings, hospitals, and schools. Their intelligence has informed them that Hamas uses the tunnels, schools, and hospitals to house their weapons, as well as other storage and terrorist facilities, including rooms for interrogations.

To lessen civilian harm, the IDF has repeatedly given orders to evacuate specific neighborhoods that they intend to target when their intelligence warns them of impending attacks or massive weapons storage.

Other Gaza City districts recently received new orders for civilian evacuations. That area had already suffered heavy bombing earlier in the conflict and was pretty much empty.
