(DailyDig.com) – Authorities apprehended a 56-year-old man at Shakira’s Miami Beach residence for the purpose of stalking her, according to the affidavit.
Daniel John Valtier, a resident of El Paso, Texas, was apprehended in Miami and is facing a charge of stalking Shakira, according to the arrest report. On January 8, law enforcement apprehended him outside the Miami Beach residence of the Latin music artist.
Shakira’s security director, who met with them, gave detectives two recordings and many social media postings made by Valtier between December and January. Valtier asserted his marital status to the singer in the postings.
Valtier brought her gifts, including toys, chocolates, and wine. Shakira and her security detail reportedly warned Valtier to stop delivering presents and spreading rumors about the singer’s marriage and personal life, according to the affidavit. Detectives spoke with Shakira, who denied knowing Valtier and voiced her worry about how he obtained her name, address, and family members’ names.
The security detail protecting Shakira saw a tweet by Valtier on January 3 that suggested he was planning to visit her Florida residence.

According to the complaint, a detective observed him and contacted the Miami Beach Police as he was making his way to Shakira’s gate. The cab driver informed authorities that Valtier didn’t pay the $70.05 he owed. According to what Valtier informed the investigators, he expected the homeowner to foot the bill.
After Valtier’s arrest, he was sent to the Guilford Knight Correctional Center from the Miami Beach Police Department’s holding facility. Prosecutors have accused him of stalking.
The judge reportedly told Valtier he couldn’t talk to Shakira in person or on social media. A video of the hearing was made public by the media.
The judge stated, as seen in the video, that Valtier’s claims had greatly concerned the court. Since the court felt that $50,000 may not be enough to ensure Shakira’s safety, the judge increased Valtier’s bail to $100,000.
