(DailyDig.com) – The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is seeking the public’s assistance in locating four inmates, one of whom is wanted for murder. They broke free from a prison in central Georgia early on October 16 in the morning.
The correctional facility may be found around 85 miles to the southeast of the city of Atlanta.
The Bibb County Detention Center saw four inmates escape around 3 a.m. local time via a broken window in the day room and a hole in the fence, according to the sheriff’s office. Sheriff David Davis said that he saw a Dodge Challenger, blue, come into the parking area beside the fence, where it appeared the escapees then got in and the car drove off.
He said that earlier the day before the jailbreak, a car was shown on surveillance film, and it seemed that someone had tampered with the fence. The driver also looked to be carrying materials they suspect were utilized by the detainees to escape into the fenced-off area.
According to the investigation, three of the wanted men were Chavis Demaryo Stokes, 29, and charged with drug and firearm possession; Marc Kerry Anderson, 24, and charged with aggravated assault; and Joey Fournier, 52, charged with murder.
Johnifer Dernard Barnwell, 37, the fourth fugitive, was captured by US Marshals and held in jail, according to the Middle District of Georgia’s US Attorney’s Office. According to reports, he was charged on federal counts of trafficking significant amounts of drugs while armed.
Although several of the detainees had spent time in the same facility previously, it seems that none of them knew one another prior to their escape.
A total of 38 schools went into lockdown in the Bibb County School District as a preventative measure after the escapes.
The investigation is ongoing regarding the jailbreak.
The Macon Regional Crime Stoppers hotline may be reached at 1-877-68CRIME or the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500 for anyone who may have information about the escape.
