MASSIVE Recall: Do You Have This Car?

(DailyDig.com) – Kia America has issued a recall for their Telluride SUVs regarding the possibility of them moving while in a parked position. A shaft engagement fault is the cause, which could mean the vehicle could crash, according to an authorities report on March 26.

The recall involves 427,407 Tellurides, and the manufacturer stated that the affected vehicles’ right front driveshaft and the intermediate shaft may not engage fully. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has published a document that suggests the supplier may have performed the assembly improperly.

As time passes, the engagement of the shaft can degrade, which may cause the vehicle to move even if it is in park without the parking brake engaged. This will increase the possibility of the vehicle crashing, according to the document.

The recalled Tellurides were assembled between January 2019 and October 2023. The document stated that they represent only one percent of the number of Tellurides built between 2020 and 2024. Kia was able to identify the vehicles when they reviewed the records of production and which supplier was involved. Kia identified the supplier, MOBIS Alabama, LLC. They are located in West Point, Georgia.

Owners of the affected Tellurides will be contacted by Kia via mail, first-class. They will refer the owners to a Kia dealer who will install software, the Electronic Parking Brake (EPB), to keep the vehicle from making any movement when it is in park. They will also replace damaged shafts that they find during their inspection, according to the document.

Prior to the completion of the current recall, the document advises owners of the affected vehicles to not only place their vehicle in park (ā€˜Pā€™), but to also engage the parking brake manually before leaving the vehicle.

Owners of the affected Tellurides who have already paid their mechanics themselves to repair the faulty shaft engagement issue have reportedly been promised to be reimbursed by Kia America.
