(DailyDig.com) – Over 30,000 Palestinians in Gaza have been reported to have been killed since Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, according to the Ministry of Health (MoH) run by Hamas. That figure is just over one percent of the nearly two and a half million population in Gaza.
According to news sources, the ministry’s figures are unverified because they do not identify how many of the reported deaths are Hamas and Palestinian combatants and how many are civilians. Also, the figures do not separate the deaths caused by the Israeli military from those caused by rocket misfires by Hamas fighters.
The Gaza MoH has registered over 70,000 individuals who have been injured in the conflict. International agencies, such as the UN and the World Health Organization (WHO), quote the MoH as the sole Palestinian source.
The news media asked Israel for their estimate of the deaths of enemy combatants. They estimate that about 10,000 terrorists have been killed since their attack on Israel on October 7. Over 1,200 Israeli citizens were killed by Hamas, and over 250 were taken hostage.
The main office of the MoH agency obtains its data on deaths and injuries from hospitals and the Red Crescent of Palestine. For the death records, hospital staff and medical employees must report each observed death, from either a corpse or whatever remains are present, accompanied by name, details of injuries sustained, identity numbers, and date of death. Although personal information may not always be known, it is essential to include the physical details.
Global pressure on Israel to put an end to the fighting has increased in recent days. The US has asked for a cease-fire temporarily but has not joined the calls for an end to the conflict.
Benny Gantz, a cabinet minister in Israel, declared that they will continue to fight and even expand their military campaigns if the hostages aren’t released by mid-March. He stated that they will continue fighting to bring their people home, where they belong.
