New “Hunger Games” Book Revealed!

(DailyDig.com) – The “The Hunger Games” novel series author Suzanne Collins announced on June 6 that she will release another novel sometime next year.

Scholastic, the publishing company, announced that they will publish “Sunrise on the Reaping,” the fifth book in the dystopian series, in March 2025. The story starts with the 50th Hunger Games reaping, 24 years prior to the storyline in the original novel, “The Hunger Games,” published in 2008. Collins’ last novel, “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes,” takes place 40 years after the upcoming “Sunrise on the Reaping” plot.

Collins’ books, particularly the earlier ones, heavily draw their themes from Roman gladiator games and Greek mythology. This new book will take some influence from David Hume, a Scottish Enlightenment philosopher.

Collins released a statement, interpreting Hume’s idea in “Sunrise on the Reaping” as his view of steadfast submission and the ease with which those in charge of large populations can implement it. This novel explores the use of propaganda by those crafting the narrative to manipulate the populace. She stated that the one question she sees in the world today, what is real or fake, is an acute issue.

Lionsgate has made a multibillion-dollar endeavor out of adapting all four of the first “Hunger Games” novels into theatrical films. The movie renditions of “The Hunger Games” and its two sequels, “Catching Fire” and “Mockingjay,” featured the book’s heroine, Katniss Everdeen, played by Jennifer Lawrence. Part 1 and Part 2 comprised the two installments of “Mockingjay“. The fourth novel, “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes,” was a prequel to the original novel by 64 years. Last year, Rachel Zegler and Tom Blyth starred in that movie.

The announcement of movie rights has not been made for the new novel, but it is expected to be released in late 2026. It is also expected to be produced by two of the same producers of “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.”
