(DailyDig.com) – In the third season of “Only Murders in the Building,” Meryl Streep appears in a shocking twist that no one anticipated coming.
Paul Rudd’s Ben Glenroy, who made a surprise appearance at the conclusion of the second season as Oliver’s co-star in the play he and Steve Martin, as Charles, are performing, is shown more extensively in the early filming of Season 3. The third season will center on the key combination of Oliver, Mabel (Selena Gomez), and Charles’ investigation into Ben’s murder after he was discovered deceased in the last minutes of the last season two show, in a preview of season three. Ashley Park and Jesse Williams are two more season three cast members that joined the show recently.
Streep connected with her pals Marty and Steve about getting involved in the show. She was thought of as the ideal casting option when the role was being written by co-creator John Hoffman, who is also the showrunner.
Hulu released the first trailer for the forthcoming season of the crime-solving show on March 12 during the 95th Academy Awards, giving viewers their first glimpse at Meryl Streep in her new role. Her character glances around awkwardly as she realizes it’s her line in a flashback showing the roundtable at which the 73-year-old actress sits, apparently as part of the Martin Short character Oliver’s return to Broadway. She exclaims, “Oh my god, it’s me!” with a guffaw.
As that statement may be interpreted in a number of different ways, the humor fits in nicely with the tone of the series. Is it meant to be a jab at Streep’s casting, or does the character played by Meryl Streep simply not have any acting chops? Is she maybe dropping hints that she’s the killer this time around?
The release date for Season three of “Only Murders in the Building” on Hulu has not yet been set.
