(DailyDig.com) – A voice actor for characters, Mark Dodson, known for acting in “Star Wars: Return of the Jedi” and “Gremlins,” died on March 2 at the age of 64.
Dodson died in Evansville, Illinois, according to Stellar Appearances’ Peter DeLorme, his representative, just a few hours before a fan event he was going to attend.
Stellar Appearances posted a social media press release announcing his death and paying tribute to their client. The post stated that Dodson had been on the radio for over four decades, was a voice actor and producer, and enjoyed attending conventions globally.
Dodson performed in many films, commercials, and video games. His uncommon voice was characteristic of every film he performed in. He enjoyed meeting his fans at all the conventions he attended.
The press release ended by stating that he loved his beloved family, loyal friends, and adoring fans. His family is asking for privacy while they grieve about their loss.
Dodson was well-known for the voice of many characters in popular films. As a start to his “Star Wars” family membership, he began with “Return of the Jedi” in 1983. He voiced Salacious B. Crumb, the giggling monkey-looking creature who sat by Jabba the Hut to serve him.
He became known by horror fans when he voiced many of the gremlins in the 1984 film “Gremlins.” The makers of “Gremlins” were the same ones who created Salacious, so they wanted his voice for their movie. He voiced several Mogwai (gremlins), who were cute but became creepy when someone broke their rules.
Dodson also voiced characters in “Ewoks: The Battle for Endor,” “Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens,” zombies for the film “Day of the Dead,” and more gremlins in “Gremlins 2: The New Batch.”
He also performed voices for video games such as “Ghostrunner,” “Star Trek Online,” “Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga,” and “Bendy and the Dark Revival.”
Dodson’s daughter, Ciara, and her children survive him.
