(DailyDig.com) – The abrupt collapse and death of a freshman in high school, who was 14 and a basketball player, during a game in Illinois has rocked the town, according to news reports.
According to a statement released by Shannon Anderson, the superintendent of the district of Momence School, the freshman girl’s death was confirmed to have occurred on the evening of January 25.
Momence High School student Amari Crite lost consciousness and fell on the floor while playing during a junior varsity basketball game. The circumstances behind the teen’s death remain a mystery to the coroner’s office of Kankakee County.
Anderson issued a statement confirming the tragic death of Crite and expressing profound sadness. The staff and students’ hearts go out to those who have been affected by the terrible tragedy.
The superintendent continued by assuring everyone that school personnel and pupils who may have felt the effects of the incident may access emotional support counselors available at the school. At the moment, they are mostly concerned with helping each other and their community deal with their loss.
The parents of Crite quickly established a GoFundMe page after the tragedy. Their beloved daughter died on January 25 after collapsing during her basketball game. The page’s description said that they were trying to raise money for a suitable funeral for the adolescent. In order to provide her with the loving farewell she deserves, they are requesting assistance. Once all the arrangements are complete, they will share the service information.
As of the time of this report, the page has produced almost $48,500, well exceeding the objective of $15,000.
The District of Momence School has the support of the Sheriff’s Office of Kankakee County, which expressed its sympathies with the district’s current sorrow. They are praying for their friends, relatives, and fellow students.
If the adolescent had any underlying health issues that may have contributed to her death, nobody knows. The inquiry has not concluded yet.
