US Implements New Sanctions on Iran

(DailyDig.com) – In response to the Palestinian terrorist organization Hamas’ assault this month on Israel, the United States slapped on a second round of penalties on October 27. These sanctions target the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps members in Iran as well as a Hamas member in that country.

The US Treasury also went against a Gaza-based organization it claims funneled illegal Iranian cash to the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) and Hamas. Iran supports Hamas and different radical organizations in the region.

According to the U.S. Department of Treasury, the actions are aimed at those who help Hamas-related enterprises circumvent sanctions.

Wally Adeyemo, the deputy secretary of the Treasury, has said that the United States is ready to take whatever necessary steps to significantly diminish Hamas’ capacity to conduct heinous terrorist actions. The sanctions were meant to prevent Hamas from abusing the global financial system, and he said certain companies in the digital asset field weren’t doing enough to restrict the flow of illegal funds.

In response to a Hamas assault on October 7 that Israel claims killed 1,400 people, Israel has been shelling the heavily populated Gaza Strip. During the attack, Hamas kidnapped almost two hundred people, including newborns.

The health ministry in Gaza, controlled by Hamas, said that Israel’s retaliatory air attacks had killed 7,028 Palestinians. Reuters was unable to confirm the tolls on its own.

The measures taken on Friday prohibit Americans from doing business with the designated organizations and freeze any assets they may have in the United States. Other parties that do specific transactions with them are also vulnerable to penalties.

The United States claims that Hamas has invested in enterprises in the United Arab Emirates, Sudan, Turkey, Algeria, and other countries to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars.

Fears of a wider confrontation throughout the Middle Eastern area have been stoked by the carnage this month. As a response to a recent round of assaults on American personnel in Syria and Iraq, the United States military conducted strikes on two locations in Syria on October 26.
