What's Hitting Theaters in December 2023?

(DailyDig.com) – In 2023, several popular films were released, such as “Oppenheimer” by Christopher Nolan, “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” (an animated sequel), and “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” (James Gunn’s emotional goodbye to the franchise).

With all the films vying for Oscar nominations and a plethora of holiday and family-friendly blockbusters, December has long been a top month for cinemagoers.

This year’s Christmas film lineup has more than just space battles, Shakespearean romantic comedies, and the year’s most anticipated musical onstage are also on offer. Consumers have a lot of alternatives during the holidays between going to the theater, watching movies on demand, and streaming them.

Two major awards-season blockbusters to keep an eye on this year are “The Color Purple” (which premieres on December 25) and “Ferrari,” which tells the story of the vehicle from the perspective of its creator, Enzo Ferrari.

The Boy and the Heron” (an animated Japanese fantasy movie authored and helmed by Hayao Miyazaki about a young boy who explores a world that is shared by those who live and those who have died) and “Wonka” (the story of how Willy Wonka went from a youth in a small shop selling chocolate to developing the Wonka Chocolate Factory) are on their way.

From inspiring sports stories like “The Boys in the Boat” (set during the Berlin Olympics in 1936) to depictions of the demise of wrestling dynasties in “The Iron Claw” to the season’s inevitable tearjerker, “All of Us Strangers,” there are many intriguing independent films to choose from. In addition, the Oscar-nominated filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos’s next feature, “Poor Things” (a young lady resurrected in the style of Frankenstein who sets out on a quest for independence), will be hitting cinemas this holiday season.

In other news, “Godzilla Minus One” demolishes cinemas once more, “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” ends its “DC Extended Universe” run with the final feature film, and Beyoncé’s “Renaissance” comes to the theater in “Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé.”
