WHO Pandemic Treaty Fails to Meet Deadline

WHO Pandemic Treaty Fails to Meet Deadline

(DailyDig.com) – The World Health Organization (WHO) had proposed a treaty for the next pandemic, and the International Health Regulations (IHR) amendments had failed to pass prior to the May 24 date set for the document text submission.

The World Health Assembly meeting in Geneva, Switzerland, did not receive the submissions for the final texts for both the WHO and IHR documents that they intended to vote on at the meeting. The WHO declared that they were preparing documents for the upcoming global pandemic.

Those critics of the global proposals accused the organizations of attempting to pressure countries to give up their national sovereignty, personal liberties, freedom to make their own health decisions, and free speech. They accused the organizations of encouraging every citizen in every country to obtain health passports in order to travel, as well as hazardous gain-of-function experimentation.

Some of the points of contention regarding regulations include setting up systems to surveil citizens by invading their privacy and ensuring the fair availability of any vaccines produced to prevent the spread of the pandemic.

The Working Group of the International Health Regulations (WGIHR) will receive a less comprehensive consensus from the IHR due to the documents’ inability to receive feedback from world governments. This amendment states that it is not a complete package but just an overview of their progress.

The Children’s Health Defense (CHD) CEO, Mary Holland, claimed that the opposition to the WHO’s proposals shut down the global consensus. She stated that the treaty’s failure was a result of civic action, which had not allowed WHO to proceed with legally binding rules for conducting pandemic operations. She claimed that, by working together, their voices combined to stop one organization’s draconian measures to rule the world.

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the Director-General of WHO, suggested on May 27 that they will continue to pursue efforts to bring the treaty to fruition. He stated that nations are dedicated to advocating for this treaty and that they can achieve their goals.
